Watch the SpaceX staff respond to its historic rocket landing
Creating reusable rockets that can land and relaunch is considered a major technological milestone that will significantly lower the cost of space travel.

Monday night’s mission was the first time SpaceX has been able to successfully touch down the Falcon 9 post-launch.
The Falcon 9 rocket, which lifted off Monday evening in Florida, was carrying 11 small satellites for communications company Orbcomm.
The main goal of Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, is to establish a colony on Mars and to make the process of getting there cheaper.
“Thus has been a wildly successful return to flight for SpaceX”, one launch commentator at the company reportedly said.
Elon Musk must have felt like a proud father last night, as his company SpaceX’s rocket, the “Falcon 9”, launched and landed successfully. The extremely high cost of those rockets made space flight hard, so the possibility of reusing them signifies a huge step toward making commercial spaceflight more economically feasible.
“We achieved recovery of the rocket in a mission that also deployed 11 satellites”, Musk added. Welcome to the club!
The first stage of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket reached the same height, around 62 miles, that the New Shepard rocket did.
Reusable space launch systems can effectively reduce the expenditure for Space travel. Imagine what would it mean to launch payloads into orbit for under a million dollars.

While the photos and video of the mission itself will garner the most attention for obvious reasons, there’s another part of the mission footage that deserves a look. After that incident, SpaceX took a six-month hiatus from launches and rolled out the upgraded Falcon 9, which has increased thrust, a much larger upper stage engine bell, and a deep cryo oxidizer. Over the last two years SpaceX, Musk and its fans and followers have watched two near misses and a spectacular explosion thwart their attempts.
