Watch ‘ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove’s First Gameplay Trailer

Series co-creator Greg Johnson took to Kickstarter past year to crowdfund ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, “a mash-up of the very best features from the classic console games (that’s one and two, y’all), with a pile of new features thrown in”. First released on Sega Genesis in 1991, the game has had two follow-ups thus far: the second installment was released on the Genesis in 1993, and the third released on Xbox in 2002.

Adult Swim Games has announced it will be publishing an all-new ToeJam and Earl game, called ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove. Having exceeded their initial goal by $100,000, the developers are still focusing their attention on PC, but hope to have the game released on console platforms, as well. The title will stay true to the earlier games in the series, but also include a host of new features to help mix it up a little. ToeJam thinks it’s a good idea to borrow the Rapmaster Rocketship, so he and Earl can take Latisha and Lewanda out for a ride to impress them.

If all of this sounds awesome to you (and why wouldn’t it?), and you love Adult Swim’s work, you’ll also be pleased to hear that the duo will be playable solo or with a friend at PAX West next weekend, September 1-4.

The Earth now breaks apart in one of those Time-Warp-Black-Hole-Displacement thingies. Who could have guessed, right? TJ asks Earl to push the red button, causing their ship to crash.
