In Rogue One, the first of many Star Wars spinoff movies that do not relate to the main storyline, we follow a group of fearless rebels who embark on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star.
Here’s a quick rundown of what “Rogue One” is and how it fits into the “Star Wars” universe, both past and present. And even with the sharp visuals and incredible sequences packed into the Rogue One trailer, on Thursday the entire Internet almost broke with attempts to define Erso and Rey in terms of the male characters in the Star Wars franchise by saying, for example, that Erso was only important because she was a male character’s mother.
One of them is Felicity Jones from “The Theory of Everything”, whose blaster-wielding character Jyn Erso is featured prominently in the spot as she’s tasked with the risky mission.

The Gareth Edwards-directed film won’t revolve much around the Jedi or the Force, but will focus on events before Star Wars: A New Hope, as the rebellion tries to steal plans for a “major weapon” the Galactic Empire is working on.

There were rumours that Darth Vader would be in the film, but perhaps those are just wishful thinking from fans. But knowing Disney and Lucasfilm, there will be plenty of trailers between now and Rogue One’s release on December 16.
