Water crisis benefit brings stars to Flint on Oscar night
As the night wound down and the Oscars ended, Ava DuVernay took to Twitter to reveal the success of #JusticeForFlint, tweeting that they raised over $100,000.

Revolt TV live-streamed the show.
#JUSTICEFORFLINT will raise donations and offer guests and watchers live musical performances and appearances from Janelle Monae, Ledisi, Musiq Soulchild, Royce da 5’9, Andra Day, Vic Mensa and “Empire” star Jussie Smollett, among others.
Jessie Williams of Grey’s Anatomy, who was at the show, kept up a steady stream of tweets and Instagram videos urging donations. “What’s going on Flintstones?” Despite resident complaints of dirty, mucky water and concerns of lead poisoning, those concerns were downplayed – having absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Flint is a majority-black, historically neglected city.
The event is being held by Blackout for Human Rights, a collective of artists, filmmakers, musicians and activists who work together to address human rights violations against Americans in the U.S.
None of the opening speakers mentioned the Academy Awards, where Coogler’s “Creed” was a favorite to win the best supporting actor Oscar for Sylvester Stallone’s reprise of his iconic Rocky character.
Though the event does coincide with the Oscars Awards-which largely ignored “Creed” in the nominations as it did for “Selma” last year- Coogler has informed that it is simply a coincidence.

“We’ve really been moved by the hope you guys have and the bright future that’s here”, Coogler told the crowd, according to the Detroit Free Press.
