Waterbury man charged with murder in death of 79-year-old

A Waterbury man was charged Wednesday night with the murder of an elderly man found in a driveway on Tower Road, state police said.

Isidore Ellin, was found dead in a driveway of a his home on Tuesday.

The office of the chief medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

He is facing charges of murder, first-degree robbery and assault on an elderly person. It’s not clear what Brockett and Ellin’s relationship is.

“It’s was a targeted incident”.

Further investigation by Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad revealed that the suspect Steven Brockett, robbed Mr. Ellin of an undisclosed amount of cash and used a few type of weapon to murder him.

State police said the two men were associates, but were not related.

Brockett will be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court and is being held on a $750,000 bond.

The road was closed off as police collected evidence.

“I was shocked. I can’t believe it. You just don’t hear about that sort of thing in Middlebury”, said Susan McGrath.

Police said there hasn’t been a homicide in Middlebury in over 20 years.
