‘Watermelon boy’: Australian boy becomes viral hit after attempting to eat
He became a worldwide sensation after trying to eat an entire watermelon during a cricket match in Melbourne, Australia, confusing the game’s commentators: “I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life”.

It seems Watermelon Boy doesn’t just love his juicy fruit; he loves its rind as well, as you can see by the enthusiasm with which he can be seen chomping through the usually hard-to-digest skin in the video above. Mitchell Schibeci, named “watermelon boy”, said he contrived the stunt to get his face on the game’s large screen. “Portions still count-a slice is more appropriate than eating an entire watermelon”, she says.
He said that eating the whole watermelon was tougher than expected.
“I saw people do insane things, like that mullet boy who got on television, so I thought I might try it too”, Michael, the son of a local broadcaster, told Channel Seven News. “I just like the taste of it”, he said. He added that he has been eating watermelon rinds since he was two years old.
The clasp of Mitchell tucking into the watermelon was grabbed as ESPN’s Play of the Day, yet he hasn’t left the attention go to his head.

“I’m not really a hero, I’m just a normal average kid”, Mitchell said. The kid happens to be the son of Melbourne’s SEN 1116 radio host and sports reporter Tony Schibeci.
