Mail was scattered over land and water when a U.S. Postal Service tractor-trailer was struck by a tornado on the northbound Sunshine Skyway Bridge approach Sunday morning.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the truck’s driver – Randall J. Leaver, 56 – emerged unscathed, but the vehicle was badly damaged.
A video of the incident went viral. The waterspout footage shows aftermath of a tornado which crossed the path of a large mail truck in Florida. The truck was then flipped a second time due to the strength of the storm. Mail flew away and the truck was damaged, but Leaver eventually walked away uninjured.
A waterspout is a tornado that occurs over water.
WFLA Meteorologist Bryan Bennett confirmed that the waterspout near the bridge appeared at about 9:50 a.m. The waterspout overturned a small boat, damaged a construction site, and flattened signs.
