Watford had much more possession and pulled a goal back – were we going to have the usual nail-biting Arsenal style last few minutes? – not really. “I believe we bought [Granit] Xhaka, if we get another player in who is around his age, it is an interesting age for the future as well for the club”. “We are a new team gelling again, these first four or five games won’t define our season”.

“We want to win the title, there is no hiding in that and we will do our best”.

The 27-year-old has taken an essentially indistinguishable course to the top as Vardy, who turned down a move to the Emirates prior this late spring and indicated another simultaneousness with champions Leicester City.

Mustafi has reported passed a medical along with Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, with Valencia agreeing to sell the defender for a fee of £35 million. Conversely, Watford attempted all six of their shots on target in the second half.

And it appears Wenger has been equally impressed, likening the Switzerland global to former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit.

“Now Mesut is almost there, not quite, and he goes again”.

While Olivier Giroud remains restricted to a role on the bench after his Euro 2016 travails, Mesut Ozil made his first start of the season and instantly got involved.

Arsenal did not look like a fearful side though in the opening stages as they dominated possession in a confident manner.

Despite Arsenal’s dominance, they nearly gifted Watford an equaliser moments later when Laurent Koscielny’s attempted interception saw him turn Amrabat’s cross towards his own goal, forcing Petr Cech into a smart stop. At the moment we are not completely there physically and could see that in the second half.

New arrival Janmaat could be handed his debut for Watford this weekend, while Younes Kaboul could also be included in the defensive line.
