Watkins suffers a calf injury against Miami

All eyes are on Sammy Watkins who left the game against the Dolphins early with a calf injury. The Bills head coaching job opened up after Doug Marrone curiously opted out of his contract after last season. The Bills bounced back with statement win over divisional rivals, Miami Dolphins, 41-14 in Sun Life Stadium, to run their season record to 2-1. Ironically, McCoy has been dinged up, but rookie Karlos Williams has stepped up to fill the void and then a few. He is completing close to 75 percent of his passes with seven touchdown passes to three interceptions and a passer rating of 116.1, and is averaging 5.6 yards a carry when he takes off with the ball.

Williams has especially been a revelation after the team cut Fred Jackson in the preseason, as his emergence is allowing the Bills to potentially shut McCoy down until he is healthy. He had 110 yards off 12 carries against the Dolphins and the team likes what they see in him. If it weren’t for Odell Beckham Jr., another rookie last season, Watkins would have been the most talked about wideout from a historically good class.

Watkins has been diagnosed with a mid calf strain and is considered day-to-day moving forward, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports. Finally, Charles Clay adds a nice receiving dimension at tight end and had a lovely 25-yard touchdown grab against his former team on Sunday.

McCoy said after the game that the hamstring injury was still affecting him. However, after three games he admits that he is being hampered by it and might need to miss a game as a result. Quietly right behind them are the New York Football Giants, allowing 224 yards. I don’t expect the Giants to throw that much but it shows a blueprint of how to beat aggressive defenses, New England used the same strategy in last year’s Super Bowl victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

I like how the Giants match up in this one, if they can continue to control the run and play exceptionally well in the secondary the Giants have a very strong shot to get to erase an 0-2 start to the season.
