Stanislas Wawrinka has booked his place in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters by beating Borna Coric 3-6 7-6(3) 6-2 this evening.

French Open champion Wawrinka said he had yet to receive an apology from Nick Kyrgios for the Australian’s incendiary comment during their match last week.

The Swiss star didn’t take control until he broke Coric’s serve in the sixth game of the third set and then held for a 5-2 lead.

Kyrgios, who was fined 10-thousand US dollars by the ATP for his courtside comments, later issued a statement apologising for his remarks, insisting they were made “in the heat of the moment”.

“He didn’t really apologize to the people… he should”.

Kyrgios triggered widespread revulsion for his on-court taunt to Wawrinka last week that fellow Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis had had a fling with WTA professional Vekic. “I’m there, I’m trying to do my job, Today, I’m happy with the way I fight, even if I was playing bad tennis“, he said. He double-faulted on one point which set up Wawrinka with three set points, and the fifth-ranked Swiss jumped on his first one to force the match into a deciding third set. I know how I deal with everything.

Murray, who ended an eight-match, 25-month drought against the Serb on Sunday in Montreal, was given a thorough test by the 33-year-old Fish, who has said he will retire after the August 31-September 13 US Open. “For me it’s a really important match today to win it. Not the way I play, not the way I am on the court, but the way I fight with little energy that I have”. “You know, it’s been some tough day for some people, and it’s always hard to completely focus on the tennis court”. “But most important is the win”.

Belgian David Goffin, seeded 13th, beat Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 7-6 (7/4); the 15th-seeded South African Kevin Anderson defeated Jack Sock 6-3, 7-6 (9/7).
