Wayne Rogers, Trapper John on ‘MASH,’ Dies at 82

William Wayne McMillan Rogers III played the wry sidekick to Alan Alda’s Hawkeye Pierce for only the first three years of the series’ historically popular 11-season run on CBS.

Elliot Gould was same character in the “M.A.S.H.” feature film that preceded the TV show, and Pernell Roberts played the title character in the 1980s spinoff drama “Trapper John, M.D”.

An Alabama native and Princeton graduate, Rogers had parts on many short-lived shows before “M.A.S.H.”, specializing in westerns like “Law of the Plainsman” and “Stagecoach West”.

After leaving M.A.S.H., Rogers made regular appearances on television, including a role on the popular “90s-era Angela Lansbury show, Murder, She Wrote”.

In recent years, Rogers was a panelist on “Cashin’ In” on Fox News.
