Wayne Rooney denies reports England players lost faith in Roy Hodgson

In a media conference at England’s Euro 2016 base in Chantilly, Hodgson denied that senior players questioned his tactics.

The Three Lions’ first knockout round fixture at the tournament brought them up against Iceland, who have quickly proven to be the Leicester City of Euro 2016.

The claims had been reported by British broadcaster Sky Sports who said they had come from unidentified sources inside the England camp. I think he’s got the personality, the strength, he’s a good technical manager, he’s very experienced and he’s someone who perhaps could imbue confidence.

“We clearly need an inspirational manager who can harness the big resources that the English game has got, everything we have now got at St George’s Park (the national training centre), to make us more resilient in tournaments”, Glenn said.

Former England manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that he would not have an issue with a foreign manager succeeding him in charge of the national team.

There had been around 100 journalists, photographers, fans and onlookers outside England’s hotel when the squad arrived on June 6, but that number was halved for the players’ departure. One day I think we will do well and hopefully that can happen in 2018. This team has played better and more threatening football.

“For now, we congratulate Iceland for reaching the quarter final and wish them well against France at the weekend”.

“We feel very sad we couldn’t deliver what we wanted to deliver. On behalf of the players, we completely supported the England manager”. I suppose someone has to come and take the slings and arrows … my emotions are the obvious ones.

Two of the country’s last four permanent bosses have been imports – Sweden’s Sven-Goran Eriksson and Italy’s Fabio Capello – and Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn suggested on Tuesday nationality would be no barrier for the right candidate. Iceland is not your epitaph or your legacy.

It’s got to be the best person.

“And what’s more, so much is going to be written about our failure to get to the quarterfinals that nothing I can say would do anything other than fuel the flames possibly”. I did so because I have never shirked a press conference.

But England captain Rooney said, while an English manager is preferable, the nationality of the new boss does not matter.
