Wayne Rooney discusses life under Jose Mourinho

While new United signing Paul Pogba has been singled out for criticism, so has veteran Wayne Rooney, with a growing feeling among reporters and spectators that his powers are irreversibly on the wane.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney labelled criticism from outside the club as “rubbish” this week, but it hasn’t sat well with certain supporters.

Cup holders City, who won 2-1 against United in the English Premier League earlier this month, will play an away game against United in the last week of October after their 2-1 win at Swansea here on Wednesday.

Some observers have questioned whether 30-year-old Rooney, who is just three goals short of equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time United record of 249, is still worth his place in the side.

“That’s football, I think”, Rooney told MUTV.

“I can understand clearly the disappointment if the fans are disappointed with the last week”, said Mourinho, who previously coached European football giants Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

As Ranieri steered Leicester to their historic Premier League title, Mourinho was looking for work after being fired by Chelsea in December. “I love red wine, and if he offers I will go and drink it with him”, the Leicester manager said.

Jamie Vardy has scored in three of his four games against Manchester United for Leicester in all competitions.

United will take on defending champions Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend.

“We had a bad week. But that’s the new football.it’s full of Einsteins”. But Rooney backed the Portuguese to turn things round sooner rather than later.

Mourinho’s side lost to Manchester City in the derby, before defeats against Feyenoord in the UEFA Europa League and Watford last Sunday.

“But I think collectively the team was fine”.

He also feels it is the ideal scenario for Manchester United to avenge the derby defeat earlier this month, “With what happened in the league, it’s a chance for us to get revenge for that result”, he concluded. The training has been really good and it’s interesting to see how he prepares for games with tactics, how we approach games, and it’s been really good.
