Wayne Rooney: Manchester United’s draw against Newcastle United felt like a defeat
In a pleasant change from the myriad of nil-all draws that Man United have had us endure this season, they drew 3-3 with Newcastle United last night. We missed big chances to win it. We were the better team. We have to blame ourselves because we could have finished this game much earlier.

Wayne Rooney has expressed his frustration at Manchester United’s failure to hold onto their lead against Newcastle on Tuesday night. “We threw it away, I have told that to my players”.
Rooney’s second goal looked to have won it for Van Gaal’s side but Dummett salvaged the draw in the last minute. He doesn’t seem to realise that Manchester United are not playing well.
“You can score as many goals as you want, but if you keep conceding goals, then it s a problem”.
Van Gaal admitted on Monday that he had been “very bored” during some games this season but saw his side produce a more exciting display before Paul Dummett’s last-minute equaliser. “I take the ball and I score the goal, and I’m very happy”.
“I hope maybe one day I can be like Wayne Rooney and some young players will be proud to play against me”.
“Then it is about heavyweight champions and who is the heavyweight champion at the end of it, and that was Smalling in his eyes – I can not understand that”.
Smalling said: “We were both jostling for positions throughout the game”.
“People thought it would be a 0-0 and it was a classic at 3-3”.
“Sometimes it s hard, but on nights like tonight (Tuesday) we did it so we need to keep working and keep trying to improve”.
“It must have been a great game for the neutrals – it was a heart attack for the coaches”.
The penalty came after referee Mike Dean had penalised Newcastle defender Mbemba for handball as he attempted to block a Marouane Fellaini header from close range.
The 41-year-old, however, insisted that there was a lack of confidence in the team as they have been struggling in their previous eight games.

Luckily for Mitrovic and the fans, this one happened very close to the referee and was especially blatant.
