The England captain was in Alicante for the team’s friendly match with Spain as news filtered through of the coordinated blasts in the French capital which left 129 dead and hundreds injured.

The France global has developed into one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe at the Serie A side.

“I can’t imagine how this game is going to go and what sort of football will be played, quite simply as I have never been involved in this situation before”. “I spoke to all my current teammates at Manchester United, including Bastian Schweinsteiger on the German side”. I passed my condolences to them as they were so close to it’.

“These are sad times, with a lot of people losing their lives”. It’s hard for everyone, including ourselves, and we have to be as respectful as we can. “The game is to go ahead, we will prepare and play the best game we can play, but I can’t deny there are other issues at stake that are greater than football”. Football globally does a lot for the world and it shows everyone as a unit.

“It shows France wants to show these terrorists they’re standing strong against them, and we have to support that”. This will be a night of togetherness for the terrorists to see the world will go on. I’m sure everyone will do that. But once it kicks off, we’ll try and win.
