Wayne Rooney Says Manchester United Are Fighting for Louis van Gaal
The favorite to replace van Gaal is Jose Mourinho, fired a week ago as Chelsea manager.

Van Gaal finished the press conference – lasting just under five minutes – by calmly walking out after answering only three questions and criticizing the press for their speculation.
“We’re fighting for the manager and trying to get results to turn this around”, Rooney was quoted as saying by Skysports. “But, in reality, the people who are writing that stuff don’t really know anything”, he told Sky Sports.
Louis van Gaal heard the rumors, which claim he’s close to losing his job as Manchester United’s manager.
Van Gaal spoke to MUTV less than 24 hours after his request for an apology from journalists at Carrington and was able to focus more on Saturday’s task against a Stoke side he feels has more talent than their record would suggest.
“As a group of players we know we can do better and we’re all working together to try to come up with the best solution to help us win football matches.
We haven’t won games the last few weeks and it’s normal [that] confidence will be a bit low and we need to lift it”.
“I know my performances can be better and I am working hard to improve that”.
Leicester clinched the Christmas number one spot, a year after propping up the table at the same period, but Italian manager Claudio Ranieri says his side, who have scored in every game to stand two points clear of second-placed Arsenal, can not afford to look down. “It hurts. We’re proud people and proud to play for Manchester United”, he added.
“What do you think happens with my wife or with my kids or with my grandchildren or with the fans of Manchester United or my friends?”
Wayne Rooney has without doubt been Manchester United’s scapegoat for the majority of the season, with criticism being hurled at him from all angles.
“Van Gaal continued: “(I have read) my (former) colleague (Mourinho) was here already. What do you think?
“But I think about the positive attitude he has towards the game and the fact he wants his team to play football in a positive way”. They have called me a lot of times.

“I am disappointed with the way United are playing”, Kanchelskis said. “And in four weeks we can again be back in that position”.
