Everton midfielder Darron Gibson is looking forward to locking horns with his big pal Wayne Rooney in the Manchester United captain’s testimonial and reckons that the Blues were the former Goodison idol’s only choice as potential opponents.

Proceeds from the testimonial game will go to Rooney’s chosen charities: Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Claire House children’s hospice, the NSPCC and the Manchester United Foundation.
Paul Pogba has told two Juventus fans in NY that he will stay at Juventus for the forthcoming season, despite the expectation that he will sign for Manchester United in the coming days.
United, who thrashed Turkish side Galatasaray 5-2 in a friendly on Saturday, open their league campaign with a trip to Bournemouth on August 14.
“I’m excited – I think it’ll be a good game but also a good pre-season game, which we need going into the new season”, Rooney told MUTV.
“When you make the decision to retire, you stop thinking, but once I chose to stay I started thinking again and it was really centred around bringing energy back into the team by looking at young players”.
Wayne Rooney’s testimonial could become one of the most watched games in football history, after it was announced the match will be broadcast live… on Facebook.
“I know it’s a one-off game, but we want to show we can win a trophy early on. we feel that’s an important event for us”. ‘He was one of those players who, when you trained against him, somehow he would just hurt you. “I’m sure he’ll feel there is unfinished business”, Rooney said.
“I think he’s had a fantastic career”, he added.
“You get that from winning”.

Rooney’s position in the United team under Mourinho has been a source of conjecture, as the 30-year-old played in midfield for much of the second half of last season under Mourinho’s predecessor Louis Van Gaal. “But he had great ability, and he’s gone up a level since he left us”.
