Wayne Rooney wanted to become face of Chinese Super League

The Sun state that the Chinese Super League want to bring Wayne Rooney to the Far East to become the big name player, following a huge TV deal worth a staggering £830m.

The Red Devils and England skipper celebrated his 30th birthday last month and insisted that he has many more years ahead of him in the game.

However, if United were interested in ditching Rooney before his contract expires in three years time, there is apparently a new possibility to explore.

“Football is becoming huge here and they have very big ambitions for the Chinese Super League”, Eriksson told SunSport.

There is lots of money in the Chinese league and they can pretty much afford any player in the world, so it would simply be a case of persuading both Manchester United to sell and Rooney to leave. “It would be fantastic if he could come out here to China”.

Other former players to take the plunge include Didier Drogba, Tim Cahill, Demba Ba and Momo Sissoko.

“But of course Rooney is at another level”. “He has never relied on speed too much either”.

On top of that, I doubt Rooney would consider uprooting his family from Liverpool where they have lived their whole lives.

“It is modern, cosmopolitan and has so much energy”.

Eriksson added: “Rooney has never had big injuries, so I think he will still be a great player in his mid-30s”.
