Wayne Rooney welcomes appointment of Sam Allardyce as England manager

“It’s the first day in and [I’m] getting my feet under the table”. The fans were absolutely magnificent for me at that particular time and I thank them all for that. We can’t change the past.

Sam Allardyce says he “fits the chair” as England manager.

“We’ve got some good coaches in the pipeline too and Sam will be able to work with them on a hands-on basis, just like he would do with a club”.

“I’ve had a few managers now, like most of the boys in the dressing room but it is a new start again, so we want to be optimistic and think positive”, said Mannone.

“Certainly for me it was a very nervous occasion, to wait and see who was successful”.

However, Allardyce said it would not be an issue as he had managed many world class players over the course of his career.

“Everyone thinks I play one style – it’s a tag I can’t shake but I played with Jermain Defoe up front on his own last season at 5ft 10”. “I am here because I want the challenge and I think I can make the team better and I think I am tough enough to take it so bring it on, lads!”

“This will be my greatest challenge for me in my long career and hopefully be as successful as I have in the rest of my career”, said Allardyce.

“When it comes to winning no trophies or cups, unfortunately as an English manager I never really got the chance to go right to the top of the Premier League. I want my team to have fun”. I don’t like to aim too far ahead. Rather than preparing for a welcome match at the national stadium, he will conduct additional training sessions with his squad at St George’s Park with all focus on the Group F qualifier in Trnava.

New England manager Sam Allardyce vowed on Monday to break the psychological barrier hindering the performance of the country’s big-name players at worldwide level.

He fully intends to carry that practice into global management.

“I’m going to leave that until I meet all the players and get all the staff together”, said Allardyce, who described his management style as “pragmatic”.

“I’ve managed some world-class players”. “I consider myself much more than that but that is the label I’ve been left with”.

“The most important thing are the players”. We all work for the team on the pitch and helping them to win.
