As Michelle Obama experiences her final days in the White House, writers are honoring her role over the past eight years in a new collection of essays, The Meaning of Michelle. Whee the first lady is a style icon at the same time, it called real success. “You’ve made the country proud”, the president said. Her speech was a 14-minute-long distillation of everything the anthology meant to convey; eight years of life and legacy extracted and sublimated into one final testimony. Despite the politically divisive climate, Michelle’s message has been one of hope, and of embracing the future rather than being afraid of it.

In 2008, Michelle Obama was tentative on the campaign trail, wary of saying anything to jeopardize her husband’s historic bid to be America’s first black president.

Michelle Obama has been a needed role model for many – a woman who is as sensitive as she is strong and as impactful as she is inspiring, one who could rock to Springsteen and to Stevie. And yet Michelle Obama rose above it all, with flair, substance and savvy.

Laura Bush described her first few weeks at home after her husband’s presidency ended as a relief.

In an exclusive interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, he said: “Michelle never fully took to the scrutiny”. “When she’s ready, our group will come together, and we’ll do strategy”.

While black Americans collectively saw her and saw our sisters and cousins and aunts and moms, we (black men) saw her and saw our classmates and our neighbors; our coworkers and our colleagues.

Their overarching strategy for Michelle Obama’s next phase is “sometimes less is more”.

Michelle Obama was born as Michelle LaVaughn Robinson on January 17, in the year 1964, in Chicago, Illinois. “If I had anxious about who liked me and who thought I was cute when I was your age, I wouldn’t be married to the President of the United States today”, she said. And she admonishes women not to give in to the pressure.

Nope, her story is the norm for many Black Americans: two hard-working parents who pushed and encouraged her to aim high and do well, which she did.

Obama revealed on Sunday that the First Family will be happy to move out of the White House and out of the spotlight.

The Obamas are preparing to move out of the White House ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday. “And now, after this long period of time, [she] can anticipate what kinds of things will they need to know about”.

Beyonce also penned a lovely poem for Michelle. We started out with very little. “I think our democracy has it exactly right: two terms, eight years. I remember feeling incredibly humbled and proud; and that feeling has not faltered each time I see her in one of my designs”.
