Wayward Pines Season 3 Release, Updates: Fox Talks Renewal, Compelling Storyline
Speaking with reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Walden revealed (via TVLine) that the producers have presented a plan for a third season. The second season finale aired July 27. The threat of the Abbies invading the idyllic Idaho town and the shortage of crops forced Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens) to make the hard decision of putting them to sleep before his untimely death.

This has caused fans to think if the show is still scheduled for a third season. I think I’m sharing a point of view of Night’s that the first couple episodes were trying to find its way in a reset.
Wayward Pines this season averaged 2.4 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating in Live+Same Day ratings, versus its freshman run’s 3.8 mil/1.1. The only way a third season will be greenlit is for Hassler to bring in something really big, which is highly unlikely considering the show’s direction now. “We’re definitely talking about the show right now”, she added while commenting on the season 3 storyline by creator Chad Hodge and director Night.
“They have a really compelling idea for Season 3 that I liked very much”. She also tells Zap2it that she anticipates the return of some of the Season 2 characters, so with that in mind, here are the three must-haves if “Wayward Pines” returns.
The series, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, followed the story of Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), a U.S. Secret Service agent investigating the disappearance of two federal agents in the mysterious small town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, in Season 1.
The way ratings are calculated now is much more complicated than the old days of Nielsen numbers. The CEO personally knows how busy Shyamalan is as well. With all the information ready, she is just waiting on the delayed viewing platform results.

The best episode of “Wayward Pines” entire series was definitely “Time Will Tell”, the look back into CJ’s (Djimon Hounsou) journey as the one Wayward Pines resident who watched the world implode.
