We are not gays – Mugabe tells United Nations General Assembly

Robert Mugabe used the United Nations podium on Monday evening to attack homosexuality in front of the General Assembly.

Ironically, gay activist Chesterfield Samba was receiving a courage award for fighting for the rights of gays and lesbians in Zimbabwe. “We reject attempts to prescribe new rights that are contrary to our values, norms, traditions and beliefs,” he said.

This is not the first time Mugabe has made such remarks.

He added that while he was in favour of human rights he would not allow gay marriage.

Mugabe argued against what he calls “new human rights”, Buzz Feed reported. He also stated that those of homosexual orientation were lower than “pigs, goats and birds”.
