We can prove doubters wrong – Garde

However, with the January transfer window just around the corner and an unfamiliar sense of optimism over the appointment of new boss, Remi Garde, things could finally be looking up.

The biggest chance of the game came in second half stoppage time, as Fernando’s free header in the box clanged off the crossbar and was later cleared by the Villa defense.

The side were written off under former boss Tim Sherwood, but after replacing the ex-Tottenham manager Garde hopes to have changed perceptions. The hosts, on the other hand, will face this term’s league leaders as nothing but minnows with zero wins in last seven games of the league so far. They were rewarded with this good point. It was a tough game. The medical team here have been unbelievable with me. Sometimes experience helps you.

With plenty of talk ahead of the game about new manager syndrome and the fact that he thought Villa were in a false position in the table, he knows it should’ve been a return of all three points today but we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. The difference between the two teams before was huge and making sure we were well organised defensively was my priority.

Garde now has a fortnight to try and improve the squad during the worldwide break and Guzan says the positive impression the 49-year-old has made has already given the players a boost in their bid to beat the drop.

“No player will not play because he is French or Spanish or British. I saw in training how good or bad they were”.

“We’re disappointed with the draw”, he said. I think we did enough to win the game.

Aston Villa has many issues to fix during the Winter transfer window, but goalie isn’t one of them.

“It’s been really hard (being out), I had a lot of injury problems when I was younger but I seemed to have overcome them”.

“Of course we tried to score, but we couldn’t”, he said. Two or three of our chances were unlucky. This happens in football.

“In the second half we were playing the way we were supposed to play but you get those days”.

The draw against Manchester City also earned Guzan his first league clean sheet since the opening day, which relieved a few pressure on the under fire American.
