We’re going to carry Hillary to victory: Obama

Becoming the first woman to win the nomination of a major political party, Mrs Clinton promised to be a president for “all Americans”, whether they voted for her or not.

In her acceptance speech, Clinton praised Sanders for his campaign, its appeal to young people and its call for economic and social justice.

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, a former Republican with ties to Trump, also made an appearance, blasting his fellow billionaire.

At the Republican convention last week that nominated Trump, “there were no serious solutions to pressing problems – just the fanning of resentment, and blame, and anger and hate”, he said.

Mrs Clinton emphasised her point by saying the Founding Fathers designed the US Constitution so America would be a nation where no one person had all the power. “Let me tell you, it was tough, because Hillary’s tough”.

In addition to the statement, Trump tweeted several additional criticisms of Clinton. America is already strong.

Kyle Kondik of the University of Virginia Center for Politics said the issue is a lingering question for voters and one she might have been wise to mention in her speech Thursday. “But as I’ve traveled this country, through all fifty states, as I’ve rejoiced with you and mourned with you, what I’ve also seen, more than anything, is what is right with America”, Obama said in his excerpts of the speech.

“She’s been there for us, even if we haven’t always noticed”, Obama said on Wednesday, imploring the country to elect the woman he defeated eight years ago in the Democratic Party primaries. Their objective: using four nights of prime-time television to present Americans a sharp contrast to Donald Trump’s apocalyptic view of a decaying nation besieged by enemies, immigrants and violent criminals.

The Democratic presidential nominee, 68, previously spoke during the convention via satellite video after she officially secured the nomination on Monday.

So when Hillary watched Biden and Obama get that raucous reception, she had to be thinking: Is it too soon to toss out the “Change Maker”?

He urged Democrats to come together, to rally behind Clinton, reaching out to party idealists who had aligned themselves with Sen. “America isn’t about ‘yes he will.’ It’s about ‘yes we can, ‘” he said.

She said people wanted “steady leadership”, vowing to stand by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies against any Russian threats. “So maybe we’ve got kind of a high point of the campaign now and then it will taper off just a bit between now and Labor Day and then get going again”.
