We will make top four without buying players in January – Mourinho

“We were champions four months ago, not four years ago or 10 years ago”, he added.

“No one has seen anything unusual in the team”. I am happy with my players, I trust the players I don’t need to “clean” the dressing room like I heard was written somewhere. They know they are playing more than okay, individually and collectively, and the results have to come.

“Right now, the statement from the owner and from the board comes from a belief we are in a position to trust a manager who has delivered so much”, Emenalo told The Telegraph. “We also look at the publicity side, in terms of what is going to be on the back pages of the newspapers, because that basically is what people want to see”.

“However, we have to make sure we are at our best, to play as well as we can and if we do that, then we have a chance. Supporting the manager is the right thing to do”.

“We have those [leaders] in the team. Gary Cahill is an England vice-captain so there are leaders in there but they need to grow, they need to develop their own personality and dominance”.

The global break could not have come at a better time for Mourinho and his players.

Once again Chelsea will be without their first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois who is still recovering from a knee injury, and Radamel Falcao will also be unavailable. However, his career at United hasn’t really taken off, with the Dutchman scoring just one goal in eight league appearances, and only one in the Champions League too.

“He is deeply, deeply passionate about football and about English football and this club”, the Nigerian continued.

Chelsea are now languishing in 16th in the league after 12 games, the worst start to a league title defence in years and many feel even finishing in the top four is beyond the Blues this season.

Norwich head to west London one point and a place above Chelsea after a much-needed victory against Swansea last time out.

“Every player goes through this but in a way I think it will be good for him as it will make him think more about his game. We were champions four months ago, not ten years ago”.

“If I ask for players, or if the club gives me a handful of players, it’s like taking the responsibility (away from) us and saying we need extra to reach our objectives”. However, in left the club in 2008 after winning Premier League (2005, 2006); FA Cup (2007); League Cup (2005, 2007) and Community Shield (2005).

“I believe the good moment will arrive, lots of matches are coming now, four months without the national team [games]. It might actually destabilise the squad”.

“The fact I went that way against Manchester City does not have any bearing on the Chelsea match tactically in setting the team up”, he said.

“I had a lot of time for Bobby”.

“My last conversations with him a few weeks ago were great”. It is a big loss first and foremost for his family.
