We Won’t Be Seeing Disney Infinity 4.0 This Year

Today, Disney Interactive debuted their first episode of Disney Infinity Next, showing off some of the brand-new content coming to Disney Infinity 3.0 for the rest of this year, including a new play set for each of the four core brands of the Walt Disney Company; Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

In our review of Disney Infinity 3.0, we called the latest iteration “a deeply complex system of games, an aspirational creation that strives to do many things well”. According to Vignocchi, with all of the new content updates, by the end of the year Disney Infinity 3.0 will be the biggest Disney video game to date. And there’s plenty to get excited about, with Disney going into more detail on Marvel Battlegrounds out 25th March in the UK. There’s also a standalone Symbiote Spider-Man figure coming to help round out the Civil War connections, though he was already released as part of the PS Vita starter pack in 2014. It’s an all out brawl in Marvel Battlegrounds! The same goes for all the new Marvel characters being added into the fray. Black Panther is an agile powerhouse, capable of stun and juggle combos that should drive enemies insane. There will be eight arenas to battle in over the course of the story including the Avengers Training Facility, New York train yards, Wakandan Mines, S.H.I.E.L.D.

The play set will be released this spring alongside three new characters: Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia, and Baloo from the original Jungle Book. All of the stages feature multiple tiers that become accessible as more and more damage is done to a level. Both of those films are set to come later this year and it looks like Disney Infinity figures are in the works for both.
