Kolkata: Several parts of Kolkata were waterlogged following heavy overnight rain owing to a depression over Bay of Bengal caused by cyclone Komen, officials said on Saturday.

More than ten villages in Balasore district in West Bengal still remains flooded.
On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited Udaynarayanpur in Howrah district to take stock of the situation and monitor relief and rescue operations.
It has been raining heavily in south Bengal after Cyclone Komen made landfall in neighbouring Bangladesh last week.
“We have evacuated more than 60,000 people from the coastal fishermen’s villages and sent them to cyclone centres”, he said.
While capital Imphal has been cut off from Moreh on the Indo-Myanmar border and Jiribam on the Assam border, rescue teams are having a tough time in reaching Joumol village in Chandel district, where 20 people died in a landslide yesterday.
The Kuye river, which has been flowing above the danger level for the past few days now, has flooded several villages located on its banks, including Miriti in Birbhum, from where President Pranab Mukherjee hails.
Meanwhile, media reports said 20 people have lost lives in Odisha, which is lashed by heavy rainfalls already.
In the neighbouring states of Odisha and Jharkhand, the situation is no different.
Even the national and state highways weren’t left unaffected by the floods and rains as at several points, the water is flowing nearly to a truck-height.

It is forecast to weaken as a well-marked low-pressure area but will sustain the heavy rainfall over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh and parts of Vidarbha, reported by India Met Department. It also launched the emergency helpline number 1070 for monitoring flood situation.
