Weaker Hermine tracks toward East Coast
“It’s just going to meander for a few days”, said Dennis Feltgen of the National Hurricane Center, explaining that Hermine was unlikely to make landfall again but was positioned to batter the coast with wind and waves.

A Tropical Storm Warning remained in effect early Tuesday as the weakening storm lingered south of New England.
It’s a different weather picture farther south. Forecasters warn Hermine could continue to impact areas of southern New England to NY with pounding waves, coastal flooding and beach erosion.
It is now about 120 miles off of the coast of Long Island.
But to the federal and state authorities, wind speed was only part of the riddle of Hermine, which seemed ready a little over a week ago to disintegrate without becoming a named storm.
All week, the crews have been gathering the debris left behind by Tropical Storm Hermine.
This weekend, Hermine became the first hurricane to make landfall in Florida in almost 11 years.
Southern New England remains under the grip of Post-Tropical Storm Hermine.
The National Weather Service said a tropical storm warning remains in effect for New Jersey and DE, including Rehoboth Beach, which could experience wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour and life-threatening storm surges during high tide late Sunday and into Monday.
Hampton Beach lifeguards, many of whom are competitive swimmers, said they found conditions to be rough on Monday morning.
Atlantic storm Hermine drifted north on Monday off the U.S. East Coast, still packing near-hurricane strength winds but far enough from land to spare the Middle Atlantic states.
It weakened to a tropical storm as it moved through Georgia.
Governors all along the coast announced emergency preparations. By Monday, it had maximum sustained winds of almost 75 miles per hour.
In line with damage typical for a Category 1 hurricane, including power outages and destruction from falling trees, “there will be coastal flooding damages along with low level wind damage to roofs and siding”, KCC reported at the time.
“The wind is pretty strong”.
Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Hurricane Newton made landfall early Tuesday near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with winds of 90 miles per hour.

In Massachusetts, at one point more than 2,300 homes and businesses were without power by Monday evening, according to the state’s emergency management agency. Hermine’s wind and rain pelted the coast of SC and North Carolina.
