Weary GOP hopeful Trump staff shake-up triggers new momentum

Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City who has become a close Trump adviser, has also urged the candidate to dig in and prepare to fight harder, and in a more focused way, in what has quickly become one of the nastiest presidential campaigns in modern U.S. history.

Donald Trump has shaken up his presidential campaign for the second time in two months, hiring a top executive from the conservative website Breitbart News and promoting a senior adviser in an effort to right his faltering campaign.

People briefed on the move said it reflected Trump’s realization that his campaign was at a crisis point.

“The real risk to Republicans is not the transference of an endorsement for Trump, it’s turnout”, said Jason Roe, a GOP strategist in San Diego who worked for Sen. And it sent a signal, perhaps more clear than ever, that the real-estate mogul intends to finish this race on his own terms, with friends who share his instincts at his side.

Trump’s turn away from Manafort is in part a reversion to how he ran his campaign in the primary with then-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

“He gets the need to personalize and humanize what Trump wants to do”, Appell said. “It’s essentially, ‘dance with the one who brung ya'”.

Conway has past presidential experience in primary races, but the role in a general election represents a new one for her.

The campaign shake-up comes as polls show Trump trailing Clinton nationally and in key battleground states such as OH and Pennsylvania after a series of missteps, including his criticism of the Gold Star parents of a Muslim U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan.

“I think it’s fair to say that Donald Trump has shown us who he is”, she said.

“I am committed to doing whatever it takes to win this election, and ultimately become president”, the NY billionaire announced.

Latino voters find Hillary Clinton to be more trustworthy than Donald Trump, according to a new poll.

In Cleveland on Wednesday, Clinton blasted Trump’s campaign shake-up as well.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the news. “This is it”, she added.

Tom Rosenstiel, executive director of the American Press Institute, said the website has figured out how to push political story angles that animate “an audience of a particular orientation”, in this case an angry subset of Republicans that predates the tea party movement and now overlaps with Trump’s base.

Trump’s divisive tone and weak poll numbers have triggered a rash of Republican defections in recent weeks.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to disclose information about the candidates’ intelligence briefings.

Trump vented his frustration during a weekend fundraiser in the Hamptons. Both Bannon and Conway have close ties to Republican megadonor Robert Mercer, who leads a NY hedge fund and has investments in Breitbart News. Conway also has ties to the Mercers.

Conway and Bannon may prove to be opposing forces in Trump’s campaign. A campaign release highlighted that Bloomberg Politics has called Bannon the “most risky political operative in America”.

Lewandowski stays in contact with Trump, but is so despised by the candidate’s three oldest children – all of whom are influential advisers – and is seen as such a divisive figure that it would be all but impossible for him to formally return. She’s also close with daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, another influential voice in the candidate’s inner circle.

The hypothetical map would give Hillary Clinton 272 electoral votes and Donald Trump 190, meaning even if Trump wins all the toss up votes, he’ll still lose the election.

He has since faced a barrage of criticism from Republicans over his campaign style and his refusal to stick to a policy message.

Rick Gates, who has been traveling often with Trump, is expected to maintain a senior role with the campaign.

Fields ultimately resigned. Editor at large Ben Shapiro and two other staffers also left in protest.

“Like Trump himself, Breitbart and Bannon have frequently trafficked in all sorts of deranged conspiracy theories from touting that Obama was not born in America to claiming that the Obama administration was ‘importing more hating Muslims, ‘” he said.
