The Ozarks should get a break on Sunday, with sunny skies and a high of 48 in the forecast.
The warning covers an area along and to the east of a curving line from Cherokee Village to Conway to Hot Springs to Monticello. Forecasters say other areas of the state further west will likely see up to 2 inches of snow. At this time, the potential exists for substantial accumulations of ice and snow.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has updated a winter weather advisory across the region. Even so, some carriers had already cancelled Friday morning flights, so people with flights planned should visit their airline’s website before leaving home, the airport said.
The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department just before 5 a.m. reported ice or ice patches on many highways in roughly the northern third of the state.
Significant snowfall is forecast for parts of Arkansas starting early Thursday evening.
Daytime will be rainy (another 90% chance of showers) but Friday night’s low is predicted to be 31 degrees, bringing a chance of snow mixed in with the rain.

The warning replaced a winter storm watch that was issued Wednesday. A swath of Arkansas beginning in Little Rock and heading northeast to Jonesboro could receive between 4 to 6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
