‘Weather Alert Day’ Declared For Monday

Monday afternoon/evening: severe storms likely to develop near I-35 and sweep across Green Country.

Heavy storms hit south and central Oklahoma Sunday producing hail, heavy rains, flash flooding and an elephant rope tornado. Storms are expected to develop quickly and spread North and East. The threat on Sunday and includes the cities of Wichita, Kansas; Oklahoma City and San Angelo, Texas.

FIRST ALERT FOR STORMS BEGINNING TUESDAY: We will be monitoring another significant threat for severe storms across the nation’s midsection and stretching into the Midwest through tomorrow. By 9pm to 11pm, these storms will likely be moving into Arkansas as a complex or broken line of storms. Near Goodland, Eyewitness News received photos from viewers that showed roads that looked partially snow-covered with the hail. This wet weather is tracking east but it should weaken considerably as it moves closer to the Mississippi River Valley.

Parts of Kansas witnessed severe storms on Sunday evening. Shortly before 5 p.m., a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for a large portion of southern IL. LaCrosse in Rush County witnessed nearly quarter-sized hail. There are several severe warnings along this line already and that is expected to continue. Northern Butler County, where hail was reported earlier in the evening, will be lashed with a potential storm. Hail is the main threat with these storms.

Severe storms likely Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons
