In Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the city was gearing up for three more rounds of snow through the weekend after crews dealt with 6 to 7 inches overnight.

The national weather agency said snow is expected to move into central Alberta first, before it tracks south toward the US border. The watch area includes Cook, DuPage, Will and Lake counties and, in Indiana, Lake and Porter counties. Extremely high winds (gusts up to 60 mpg) paired with the freezing rain and snow to fall will lead to especially risky driving conditions.
Friday there is a 90 percent chance of snow. The service predicts an accumulation of anywhere between 3 and 10 inches Thursday, depending on where the notice was posted. The snow tapers off by Wednesday evening into Wednesday night. Dangerously cold wind chills up to 35 degrees below zero are likely in the northern Plains, according to the NWS. West wind 5 to 10 miles per hour. Highs will rise almost 5° more tomorrow afternoon and will climb near 27° in Lafayette.
By the morning commute Friday, expect snowy conditions just about everywhere. The ice and snow will continue in upstate NY, western Pennsylvania and into New England.
Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway global airports cancelled more than 170 flights on Thursday before the storm hit, and several airlines were also anticipating delays or cancellations.
The heavy snow is forecast to move into upstate NY and New England by early Saturday. Cloudy, with a high near 27. Cloudy, with a low around 11.
Most of the major roadways stayed clear of ice throughout the morning.
Sunday and Monday are dry with highs in the teens Sunday and 20s on Monday.

The snowstorm, which will bring a combination of ice, snow, and freezing rain throughout several states and the Great Lakes, is already leaving various states to deal with inclement weather and unsafe commutes.
