WEATHER: Temps reach mid-upper 70s, rain chances return tomorrow

Things begin to change tonight as a series of cold fronts will move through the state Friday into the weekend. Biggest threats with this line of storms with be strong, gusty winds and pockets of heavy rain.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible through tonight. Either way, mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs in the low to mid 70s. We will see cooler temperatures tomorrow morning with lows in the mid 40’s. Rain chances will be limited to only 20% and any rain that does form should be very isolated.

Friday isn’t so good in the capital, with Wellington having some early drizzle.

Easter Outlook: Mostly Cloudy with a few scattered thunderstorms highs near 70s.

New Plymouth is likely to be mostly dry over the break with highs in the low-20s, while Napier may not see off the last of the showers until Saturday.

The cooler air will be noticeable Thursday night into Friday as temperatures fall into the 40s by Friday morning. Temps will be cooler with highs only in the low to mid 60s. Right now, it looks like much of the day will be rain free, but there could be some shower activity by late in the day.
