Weather turning Salvation Army Red Kettles blue

It’s been a tough money-raising year for the local Salvation Army chapter. Our bell ringers just can not risk being out in the severe cold. He might be dancing for a while, because this year those red kettle pots are low on donations.

“We’re a little down in our kettles this year”, Maj. The Salvation Army needs $1.9 million for the coming year. People can donate to the red kettle, take a selfie using #rkr747 or #redkettlereason757 and post it to social media.

“I would say the majority from the campaign really comes in the last ten days”, explains Anne Bashaw-Meyer, Director of Community Engagement with the Rochester Salvation Army. “And so we want to make sure that they learn from a very early age that they have to share their time and talents and gifts with others and to be apart of a community that helps everybody”.

The Salvation Army usually gives away 30 gifts in their angel tree program, but this year they more than doubled the amount of Christmas gifts they usually give out.

“Headquarters had been calling us up, telling us they were concerned that we were behind last year’s kettle output”, he said.
