Wednesday’s Red Sox-Tigers lineup: E-Rod aims to avoid sweep
The Tigers snapped a two-game losing skid with a 4-2 win Monday night at Fenway Park.

One other local note I didn’t get to yesterday.
The Red Sox got on the board first with a solo homer off the bat of Dustin Pedroia, his 11th of the season.
Pomeranz was named to his first all-star team this season, going 8-7 with a 2.47 ERA as a member of the Padres. San Francisco won for only the second time since the All-Star break.
Last Thursday, Pelfrey limited the White Sox to one run on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings. The Red Sox had two on and two out in the seventh against Shane Greene, but Bogaerts popped up to Iglesias to end the threat.
This will be game three of the matchup.
But tonight, to start the game, Pomeranz looked like his old self.
Brewers 9, Diamondbacks 4: Scooter Gennett and Jonathan Villar each hit a two-run single in a five-run eighth inning that sent Milwaukee over Arizona.
However, in the sixth inning, the Tigers offense finally made their mark.
BOSTON (AP) – Miguel Cabrera hit a tiebreaking home run in the ninth inning that bounced off the top of the wall and into Boston’s bullpen, lifting the Detroit Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday for a three-game series sweep.
Cabrera hit his 21st homer off closer Brad Ziegler (0-1).
Cardinals 3, Mets 2, 1st Game; Mets 3, Cardinals 1, 2nd Game: Bartolo Colon pitched three-hit ball for seven sharp innings, and NY overcame another home run by Jedd Gyorko to beat St. Louis for a doubleheader split.
Red Sox: Closer Craig Kimbrel had bullpen session. With one out, Martinez ripped a fastball back up the middle for a two-run single, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
In the eighth, another former starter Clay Buchholz took over and ran into more trouble. Ziegler entered a 3-3 game and retired the first two batters he faced – Ian Kinsler and Jose Iglesias – but Cabrera launched a two-out solo bomb to right-center to put the Tigers on top. Buchholz’s awful season continues, as his ERA remains over six at 6.06.
Verlander turned in another stellar performance, allowing one run on five hits over six innings. Betts then ripped a line-drive triple to the triangle area in center field to score Shaw.
From here, things aren’t getting any easier for the Sox.
Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his first return to Fenway Park since he left in free agency in 2013 to join the Miami Marlins.
Hanley Ramirez hasn’t been as lucky, going 10-for-53 (.189) with a homer, three RBIs and eight strikeouts vs. Pelfrey. Sandy Leon followed and came through to continue his impressive 2016 season.
Wilson struck out Brock Holt looking at a curveball. Manager John Farrell was immediately criticized after the game, as Aaron Hill was left on the bench with the bases loaded and one away.

Bruce Rondon earned the win, recording the final out of the eighth with a runner on third, and Justin Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth to record his first save of the season.
