Those caught up in the tragedy were remembered at church services this morning.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “We have known him for a long time, he was a really nice guy”.

“However, there will be no complacency and those people directly involved in the flying displays will be going through all the normal checks and procedures that take place before any event of this kind”, he added.

Initially it was feared that seven people had died, but the death toll was raised to 11 last night.

“It’s an absolute devastating scene”, Barry said.

The removal of bodies may continue through Monday, according to Barry.

Barry said on Sunday the task of clearing the scene has started, while investigation is underway.

Sussex Police said the crash site is spread over about 400 yards of the A27 and extends to the adjoining airfield.

The wreckage of the fighter jet is due to be removed from the A27 later today, and local authorities are urging people to avoid the area if possible.

Neil McCarthy, who has flown planes similar to the one that crashed, said display pilots such as Mr Hill were “so highly trained” throughout the year that during August they are “at the top of our game”.

THE HAWKER HUNTER aircraft which crashed into several vehicles during Shoreham Airshow on Saturday was piloted by a man who works for a firm which has previously run flight experiences at Cotswold Airport. The road itself was also badly damaged and will need to be repaired.

He said: “It is hard to say, because from what I’ve seen it looks like a perfectly executed manoeuvre”.

“The CAA will continue to offer every assistance to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch as it seeks to establish the cause of the accident”.
