Speaking of the latter, Mockingjay Part Two added $32 million this weekend to bring its overseas total to $297 million.

Only 34 movies in history have opened at over 100 million dollars, including all four in The Hunger Games series.
Krampus topped the new releases this week with $16.29 million. The blend of horror and comedy was apparently just what people were looking for in a season of family films and Oscar hopefuls. The animated film has earned $US75.9 million so far. Granted it wasn’t by much (Breaking Dawn – Part 2 made about $12 million more overall compared to the first part). There was only one new major release in “Krampus”, a darkly comic horror film from Legendary and Universal that picked up a solid $16 million. With a cast including Toni Collette and Adam Scott, Krampus scored despite a tepid 63% rating with critics on RottenTomatoes.com and a B- with audiences on CinemaScore.com. The Good Dinosaur took an estimated $15.51 million for a $75.8 million total.
From director Ryan Coogler, Creed continued to deliver a strong punch in its second weekend, falling just 48 percent for a domestic total of $65 million through Sunday.
“Mockingjay-Part 2”, the fourth instalment of the blockbuster franchise that turned Jennifer Lawrence into a Hollywood mega-star, raked in US$18.6 million (RM77.9 million) in ticket sales, according to estimates yesterday from box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.
Third place was a dead heat between Creed and The Good Dinosaur as only a few thousand dollars separated the two. And “Spectre’ took fifth position with $US5.4 million”. And Freestyle Releasing’s “The Letters” debuted to $802,000, in 886 theaters. The movie, tackling the issue of gun violence in Chicago, looks to come in No. 13 with $1.3 million from 305 locations for a screen average of $4,092.

It’s rare that a Pixar film doesn’t win its opening weekend, although that was never really expected since the troubled production was opening so soon after Mockingjay. Night earned $4.9 million and only fell 42% from last weekend. The science-fiction sequel earned $US18.6 million, pushing its stateside haul to $US227.1 million.
