Weekend Box Office: The Jungle Book Three-peats, Mother’s Day Gets Forgotten
“Jungle Book” box office collections: The weekend’s debuts withered under the stampede of “The Jungle Book.’ Keegen-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s feline action-comedy ‘Keanu” opened with a modest $9.4 million.

The Jungle Book pulverised a trio of box office lightweights, racking up US$42.4 million (RM 166.1 million) to lead ticket sales for the third consecutive weekend.
Jon Favreau’s live-action Rudyard Kipling adaptation has now taken a hefty $684.8 million (£468.7 million) globally, making it one of the year’s biggest hits so far. With The Jungle Book ($57.1M) and Zootopia ($8.3M), along with Captain America: Civil War, Disney had the top 3 studio movies this weekend internationally, with all three movies pulling in $265.6M from foreign markets this weekend. Final domestic figures will be released Monday. 1. The DC Extended Universe film brought its totals to $325.1 million domestically and $862.9 million worldwide.
But Bock says that next weekend’s opening of Captain America: Civil War will make people forget any temporary box office slowdown. Not only is Civil War opening in North America this weekend, but it will also premiere in Italy on May 4, Russian Federation and Argentina on May 5, and China on May 6. The weak result is alleviated somewhat by the fact that the Warner Bros./ New Line release cost a meagre $15 million to produce. Where available, the latest worldwide numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included.
The best-performing new release was Mother’s Day, Garry Marshall’s critically savaged ensemble movie, featuring Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts among some beleaguered mums. Predictions at this point have the film opening with at least $180 million and more likely around $190 million; it already got off to a $200.2 million start overseas this weekend. The Boss, $4.2 million.9.
There’s no slowing The Jungle Book. The Hugh Jackman-starrer has now brought in $5.5 million.

This is Xue’s third movie after the surprise debut “Ocean Heaven”, which starred Jet Li in a wholly dramatic role, and romance “Finding Mr. Right” which was a smash hit in 2013. Domestically, Winters War has earned only $45 million, while its overseas total has risen to $97 million, leaving this one gasping for air. Aspirational workplace romance, “MBA Partners” earned $7.82 million for fourth. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, $2.8 million.10.
