Weekend Movies: Bourne and Razed

It’s all a bunch of gobbledygook, and Jason Bourne’s goofy-ass plot devices are knotted a bit too tightly. He probably will continue to be unhappy for as long as this franchise has a future.

“I was skeptical there was one to be done, I was skeptical I wanted to do it and I was skeptical it would hold up with the others”, the director recently told The Times.

So Matt Damon’s back – yes, he’s “Bourne again” for a fourth espionage-em-up as rogue super-spy Jason Bourne. She knows deep down Jason wants to learn the truth about what happened to his father and why he volunteered to become the most lethal killing operative the agency ever had.

The deadly assassin with amnesia is back with “Jason Bourne”. However, if you want a dumb action thriller that requires no use of your brain, check out Jason Bourne.

So we have all this talent, both in front of and behind the camera, and yet Jason Bourne feels incredibly stale. If you’re excited to see Jason Bourne in action, I would say just rent the first 3 movies for the complete story and stop there. Plus, the cast was fucking amazing-beyond Matt Damon there was Franka Potente, the badass German actress from Run Lola Run, Clive Owen and Chris Cooper, Brian Cox -Brian. During the film, Bourne follows the two men to Las Vegas where they are scheduled to appear on stage together at a made-up technology conference called “ExpoCon”.

The action in the movie is entertaining at times and is certainly classic Bourne, but the stakes never seem as high as they were in the original three movies, making this one that much less engrossing. The CIA is anxious he will blow the cover off of some of their secret operations, so CIA director Robert Dewey (played by the rapidly aging Tommy Lee Jones) issues orders for him to be taken out.

Still, while not being in the same league as some of the earlier Bourne films, Jason Bourne is an entertaining addition to the action movie series. Lee is ambitious and looks to bring Bourne in to hopefully help her own career, while Cassel’s asset is bent on destroying Bourne for personal reasons. Yet hardcore fans of the Bourne series should wait to see this newest film, most likely will leave them underwhelmed and disappointed.
