Closer to home, Batman has been treated for a minor respiratory condition, but the doctor assures it’s nothing catastrophic.

According to KDKA, Batman is a three-year-old feline who was brought to the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society after his owner could no longer care for him.

The kitty’s extra set of ears is a rarely seen genetic mutation, traced back to a cat in Ashtabula, Ohio, in 1938, the shelter said on Facebook – and this is not the first time a kitty of his kind has made headlines.

The cat does not hear in stereo.

Studies of the mutation suggest that a recessive gene mutation is needed from both parents in order for four ears to be produced.

The cat, who lived comfortably with other animals in his previous home, would do well in a house with or without animals, the shelter said. He is a very friendly and love cheek rubs, ‘ Hala Nuemah, managing director of the Western PA Humane Society, wrote.

“We’re hoping that the interest in Batman will help get more people through the door to look at animals they may have never thought of adopting”, Ms Lasky said.

Shelter veterinarian Dr Todd Blauvelt told CBS News: ‘He’s a really cool cat. He can hear just fine, ‘ he explained.

A mother and her young daughter adopted Batman on Tuesday, only hours after the shelter posted video of the unusual animal. “It was fitting because the little girl liked superheroes”. For instance, on August 11, all cat and kitten adoptions will cost $11, humane society spokeswoman Ashley Hammond said.
