Wenger backs Gunners to win in Greece

Arsenal will monitor the fitness of Alexis Sanchez to play at Norwich on Sunday after he suffered a hamstring strain in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb.

“We have to go to Olympiakos and win with a two goal difference”, said Flamini.

“We needed to win”. Despite the odds appearing to be stacked against the Gunners who have lost on all three previous visits to Olympiacos, the Chelsea manager thinks Arsenal are capable of reaching the last-16.

“I’m glad it went like this and Bayern in the other game also confirmed being the favourites”, said Cech.

“You have to trust UEFA and the organisation over there to ensure it is handled well”.

Barcelona’s Luis Suarez hit a brace and set up a double for a spritely Lionel Messi to score in his first start after injury in a rampant 6-1 Champions League victory over AS Roma.

Wenger has explained that this is all due to Sanchez’s mental strength.

“For an athlete, if you don’t play every week, it’s not easy because the more games you have in your legs, the better you become”. I believe the speed of our movement and passing gave Zagreb a problem. Overall we had a game of quality that we controlled well. “I don’t know many people that don’t like a bargain”, he said.

It was important to respond tonight as confidence can drop quickly.

“If we get through we will be a threat. I think they have a lot to play for”.

“I’m not sure that 11 is capable of going there and getting the result they need”, Gerrard told BT Sport.

“We tried to do our best”.

There was positive news as well for Francis Coquelin, who injured a knee ligament against West Brom, with Wenger confirming the midfielder would not need surgery.

“They were really pressing”. They have a good chance. They really controlled the match and I can only congratulate them.

“If you look at the injury list it’s quite big, main players as well that would normally be in the team”. When they go, it is to kill and after they have to stop.

But Gerrard believes that Arsenal’s damage issues coupled with a scarcity of high quality within the squad imply Arsene Wenger’s males will struggle to get the end result they want in Greece.
