Wenger calls on Arsenal to embrace ‘fear factor’ at Olympiacos

Aside from the fact that Olympiacos have already won in London this season, the Greeks have triumphed 1-0, 3-1 and 2-1 on the occasion of each of the sides’ previous three meetings in Piraeus.

“I am sure that the ball is going to go in and that we’re going to go home with a win”. “We have a history where we have positive results”, Wenger said.

The different permutations in the group means Wenger will have to adopt a flexible approach.

“Mentally, you prepare yourself to adapt to every situation and give the right response to every situation you face”.

“We will have to adapt to what is happening on the pitch and to all of the scenarios, accept them and respond”.

Wenger is keen, though, that his players do not allow their need for goals to cloud their thinking.

“We have to put every scenario in our head”, he said. When the goals will come, I do not know. When will the goal come?

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who excelled playing in midfield and scored in Saturday’s Premier League 3-1 win over Sunderland, said Arsenal must not get ahead of themselves and get exposed at the back.

“Alexis is a hamstring but I don’t know how long it will take, it is usually a quick one to recover while Cazorla we don’t know until he sees a specialist”.

Not since being paired with Barcelona, Fiorentina and AIK in 1999/00 has a Champions League group proven beyond Arsenal’s capabilities, but the belief is that this term’s Group F is the one to end their superb progression streak, as they are [3.25] to find a way out of their self-dug crater.

Arsenal only trails Leicester City by two points at the top of the table, but Sky Bet listed Leicester’s odds of winning the league at 28-1 as late as Monday morning, essentially daring the public to bet on the surprise team of the season.

“The fans will be behind them and our goal is to beat them”.

“We can learn from what happened to us in Monaco especially”, he said.

“We were edgy and nervy in the first half against a very organised team who were unsafe on the counter-attack, but in the second half I think we have shown mental strength and desire in our game and more fluency as well”. But that run is in jeopardy, not so much due to a 5-1 hammering at group winners Bayern Munich but because Arsenal were beaten in their opening two games including a shock 3-2 defeat at home to Olympiakos.
