Wenger: Cazorla should have taken Arsenal penalty not Alexis

Further goals from Theo Walcott and Granit Xhaka ensured Arsenal came away from the KCOM Stadium with an emphatic result and their third consecutive Premier League victory, and Wenger praised the fluency of their performance.

With regular penalty-taker Santi Cazorla – who has scored his last seven form the spot – looking on, Sanchez saw his effort saved by Jakupovic low to his right. Santi Cazorla opened the scoring from the penalty shot in the 9th minute, before Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil added to the scoreline just before half-time.

But with 10 minutes to go, Dieumerci Mbokani was brought down by Cech inside the box, allowing Snodgrass to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

Keown was pleased to see Xhaka make his case to Wenger with a goal and believes the Switzerland worldwide may be the player Arsenal have been looking for for some time.

Hull have taken one point from three games since opening the season with back-to-back victories.

The former Manchester United assistant has been in charge for nearly two months since the departure of Steve Bruce, and he said: “My future is a lot brighter, I think”. “We started well, dominated and were fluent”.

With experienced defensive pair Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker both unavailable, the Gunners lined up with 20-year-old Rob Holding – a new signing from Bolton – and 21-year-old Callum Chambers in central defence, but the Liverpool attackers were ruthless in their destruction of the young duo.

“I was offered some terms 48 hours ago and due to this game being quickly upon us I left it alone”.

“I think overall we had a convincing performance in two different situations”, Arsenal boss Wenger said.

Sanchez could even afford to miss a first-half penalty at the KCom Stadium – where Hull were reduced to 10 men – as the Gunners continued their recovery following a slow start to the season which saw them take only a point from their first two games. “I can sit down now, see where we go and discuss it with the owners and I am sure something will be resolved”, Phelan told reporters.

Despite being down to 10 men his side chased every lost cause, scrapped for every 50-50 ball and never threw in the towel.

Sanchez fired the first decent chance of the afternoon over the bar following good work from Walcott before Snodgrass won his side a corner but the delivery was towards the far stick was well over-hit.

Sanchez’s penalty miss means he is the only Arsenal player to take more than one Premier League penalty and fail to score with any of them.

Wenger’s comments certainly seem to put a odd dampener on what was generally a fantastic day for the club, who achieved three consecutive victories in the Premier League for the first time since December previous year.
