The Gunners were unchanged from their vital 2-1 win over Manchester City five days earlier, and would have leapfrogged Leicester at the summit of the Premier League with a win.
Southampton’s Portuguese defender Jose Fonte (R) celebrates with teammates after scoring Southampton’s third goal during the English Premier League football match between Southampton and Arsenal at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, southern England on December 26, 2015.
“Many challenges we were second best, but the referee let a lot go as well and when you are not dominant that’s the kind of price you have to pay”.

Arsene Wenger could make changes as Arsenal look to get back to winning ways against Bournemouth. “We showed fantastic belief in everybody and showed how good we are if we play at our level”.
“We are in a job where we have to respond”. Unfortunately, there’s no possible career without disappointment. “I trust my players to respond well on Monday”.

Long got the better of the Arsenal defence again in stoppage time, driving the ball under Petr Cech’s legs for 4-0.
It was a stunning introduction to the Premier League for Martina, who many people hadn’t even heard of before the Arsenal game – but they certainly know him now. Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez and Mikel Arteta remain out.
Luckily they have the oppourtunity to atone for this result on Monday when they face Bournemouth, but for the time being it’s a blow to the confidence of a team who really need to affirm themselves as title challengers.
Southampton scored three more on the day-one of them a lovely team goal that didn’t come without its own bit of controversy.

The 25-year-old midfielder picked up the only yellow card of the match and has only just returned from a hamstring injury he picked up at the end of November.
