Wenger Makes 8 Changes: Predicted Arsenal Starting XI To Face Sheffield Wednesday

Little challenge, on two fronts: first, I really don’t care about the Capital One Cup, like, at all; and two, I don’t know much about Sheffield Wednesday except that someday maybe Noah Syndergaard will be playing for them.

Arsenal ran out as 3-0 winners when they visited Vicarage Road earlier this month, but the Gunners conceded seven goals in four away matches in all competitions prior to that result, and so, there is potential for plenty of goalmouth action in this Capital One Cup clash.

Wenger told Arsenal’s website: “Ospina is still out, so Cech will certainly play”.

“Nobody else is coming back”.

Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Mikel Arteta (ankle), Jack Wilshere (fibula), Danny Welbeck and Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky (both knee) all continue their rehabilitation.

“The Championship is where we play every week and, of course, that is the priority but we want to go as far as we possibly can in the cups”, Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal said of not risking players recovering from injury against Arsenal.

Confident that boyhood Owls fan Wildsmith, who has impressed when called upon this term, will step up, Carvalhal added: “It is good for Joe and to us and the club”.

“You need to convince the players that you have to work hard to win football games in the Premier League and that you need all 11 players to do that”.

“He made his worldwide debut for the England Under-20s recently and was then called into the Under-21s and that is a sign of the progress he has made”.

“Keiren Westwood is a fantastic goalkeeper and Joe will be fantastic in the future”. We have a great togetherness and we want to achieve big things together.

Carvalhal said: “We will analyse which players are more ready and which fit in with the strategy to win the game – and which players we can put out on the pitch to be a strong team”.
