Wenger: Mustafi, Perez passed medicals

Rather than the general idea of him dithering, however, our manager suggested that he had a very clear idea of what he wanted and it seems like he may have finally got it as he was quick to accept the comparison between Vardy and Lucas Perez.

The pair are expected to sign long deals, with Mustafi reportedly signing for £35 million on a 5-year-contract, while Lucas Perez’s £17 million fee could bring Arsenal’s total transfer spending close to £100 million.

I’d imagine “integrating them into the squad” means you shouldn’t expect the pair to start immediately after the global break, but hey, who knows?

Wenger announced that deals have been struck after the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Watford on Saturday.

“Ozil is not physically there completely but what we want from Ozil is assists and goals and I hope he can get that this season, 10 or 15 goals plus the chances he creates”.

“I think he’s a good signing but time will tell”, Wenger said. Let’s see if we can finish the job.

According to the Mirror, we made our move for Perez on Wednesday night after contacting Deportivo La Coruna to inform them we’re willing to meet the strikers £17m buy-out clause – hijacking Everton’s move for the player in the process.

If the deals are completed as expected, Wenger should be able to call on both players after the global break.

Mustafi will add experience to the back four after Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista were both injured, forcing Wenger to start 20-year-old Rob Holding in the Gunners’ first three games. Perez has been compared to Jamie Vardy, a comparison Wenger embraced, pointing to Perez’s speed and versatility.

Perez offers a different playing style to Giroud as he relies more on his pace than size, and can be risky outside the area as well as in the box.

“If you look at the last season for example, it is not necessarily the club who bought the most that is in front”.
