Wenger signed no outfield players during the summer but has already added to his squad this month by signing Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basel.

“It shows character. Overall he is improving game-by-game and that is very positive”, Wenger said.

“At the moment we are in the beginning of January, top of the league, qualified in the Champions League and still in the FA Cup, so we can make it a fantastic season”, he continued.

Elneny could make his Arsenal debut against Stoke City on Sunday although that is likely to depend on how the rest of the Arsenal team recover from Wednesday’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool.

“I took it as people who were upset because we lost a game and didn’t take it personally”. The Gunners played with a far greater defensive strength when Francis Coquelin was protecting the back four, rather than the ineffective Mathieu Flamini or the ageing Mikel Arteta.

Arsene Wenger feels new signing Mohamed Elneny has all the tools necessary to succeed at Arsenal.

“First he has not come in straight to a big club, he had an intermediate stay in Europe so the adaptation is less of a question mark”. We had some bad memories from a few years ago and you could still see that in some players.

“I would like to tell [the fans] that, although you have not seen much of me, I promise I will contribute positively with the team”, the Egypt global told Arsenal Player.

“I could talk about this for half an hour”, he said. Elneny can play provided he is registered on time. “That will be decisive to transform him into a more defensive or much more of a box-to-box player”.
