Wenger praises unlikely Arsenal hero after Hull win

The 27-year old earned that distinction after assuming penalty-taking duties from teammate Santi Cazorla in the 40th minute of the Gunner’s 1-4 victory over Hull City.

Xhaka’s strike in the 92nd minute, his first for the north London club, flew past Eldin Jakupovic to put the icing on the cake for the away side and Coquelin cheekily claimed the assist for the stunning goal.

Sanchez’s first goal owed much to fortune rather than brilliance as Iwobi arrived at the back post and saw his effort deflect in off the Chile worldwide.

Sanchez and Theo Walcott gave the Gunners a two-goal cushion on Saturday afternoon, only for the side reduced to 10 men – following Jake Livermore’s red card – to pull one back through a late Robert Snodgrass penalty. Overall anyone can miss a penalty, we have to accept that.

Hull fans were audibly upset with some of referee Roger East’s decisions and interim manager Mike Phelan felt the red card against Livermore was harsh.

His spindly legs and slim frame make him look like he could be blown over at any moment, but Iwobi showed he can be a key player for Arsenal this season.

“I feel overall it positive performance after playing away in the Champions League and away again today”, Wenger said.

“We were not ready physically at the start of the season, but this was a convincing win”.

“I felt that we played the last 20 minutes without too much objective to score”, he said.

“My future is a lot brighter – 48 hours ago I was offered some terms”. “When it came back to 2-1 you know what can happen, it would have been a shame not to win”. “I thought we were more than capable of putting ourselves into the game, and causing Arsenal a few issues”.
