Wenger retains slim title ambitions despite Palace draw

Former Arsenal star Jens Lehmann believes the Gunners have thrown away the Premier League title following their 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend.

But Lehman, speaking at the Laureus Sports Awards in Berlin, refuses to blame Wenger for their current struggles.

As the hosts failed to create clear-cut chances, Crystal Palace managed to level the scoreline.

“We lacked a change of pace, our passing was a bit slow”.

“It is hard to accept but the competition goes on and we focus on the next one”.

As Arsenal toiled in attack, Palace looked increasingly threatening on the break and former Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor shrugged off the jeers to tee-up Bolasie, whose 20-yard shot Petr Cech should have saved.

For Arsenal, there’s simply not alternative to replacing Wenger over the summer and we’ve got five very good reasons why…

“Maybe we could have stopped the shot, but I will have to see it again”. “I am in the mood to fix the mental damage and prepare for the next game”.

In a game where Palace allowed Arsenal to have close to three-quarters of the possession they were constantly defending.

“I am not in the mood to dream about the Championship”, said Wenger. While the two often switch positions during games, Sanchez has been playing more on the right side recently after spending much of the season on the left.

“Yes, Welbeck had a chance, yes, there was some chances in and around the Palace penalty box”.

“If you’re an Arsenal supporter there have definitely been better times”.

But City’s late burst should be enough to secure them a top-four place and guaranteed Champions League football for next season.

Pardew added: “We are a mid-table team and we need to prove that”.

“For me, my battle is against relegation now and we are kind of safe, that is what I know”.

“We’ve been talking about the situation where if any of the teams ahead of us slip, we need to get three points but unfortunately we’ve not been able to do that”.

“And I admire that”.
