Wes Morgan: Leicester City’s title-winning captain signs new deal

“Lifting that Premier League trophy was a moment I will never forget and it’s still sinking in”.

The obstacles standing in the way of Arsenal completing the summer transfer of this fantastic forward from the Foxes have been handily moving out of the way over the last week, although there are still some questions about whether Riyad Mahrez is ready to move on, and whether his current club Leicester City are determined not to sell him. “Now we’ve got to give it everything to defend it as well as showing what we can do in the Champions League”, he added on the club website (www.lcfc.com).

“I know there’s a lot of talking going off but hopefully everybody can follow in my footsteps”, Morgan, who signed a new deal until 2019, told The Guardian.

The 32-year-old captain’s extended contract could see him staying until his retirement.

News of Morgan’s fresh terms will be a huge boost to Leicester, who also managed to secure the future of last season’s top scorer Jamie Vardy despite heavy interest from Arsenal.

LCFC manager Claudio Ranieri heaped praise on his captain after the signing: “Wes is a leader and a warrior”.

Wes Morgan joined the Leicester City Football Club, then in the Championship division, in 2012.

“I suppose it’s to be expected especially after the season we had and I suppose teams trying to poach our better players is part and parcel of the job”, Morgan said.

The Jamaica global was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2015-16 having led a Leicester defence that conceded just 11 Premier League goals after the turn of the year.
